![]() They’re also very satisfying given their size and macros.įor me this was the first protein bar that actually tasted amazing and I could eat everyday without either going over on my macros or getting bored of eventually. Tastes a lot more luxurious than they look. Taste□: Excellent, sweet vanilla and cookie flavours and the chocolate chunks taste exactly as they should. This is one of the bars that didn’t seem to be affected much by the new formula. Texture□: Sticky and soft with the perfect amount of chew, the thick chocolate chunks add a nice crack to the overall texture when you hit one. Loads of thick chocolate chunks throughout. ![]() Quest chocolate chip cookie dough (new formula corn fibre)Īppearance: □ About regular size for a 60g bar. Here’s an old school bar most people are going to be somewhat familiar with. One bar that I keep coming back to continuously. Great taste and texture, fantastic macros and very satisfying for 180kcal. It’s safe to say these give quest a run for their money and I definitely see these becoming a staple in my house. ![]() Creamy, chewy and with a good amount of chocolate chunks. Taste and texture is very similar to actual cookie dough. Texture is quite similar to quest, but softer and almost fudgy, with big chocolate chunks throughout them. So I was incredibly happy to be sent these by review and they didn’t disappoint. Someone at Grenade clearly knows what their doing.įor those unaware Robert Irvine is the creator of fit crunch bars (the best tasting protein bar on the market in my opinion) Like a giant, crunchy macro friendly after eight. (But that’s just an observation, it’s not worth marking them down for). Very little to find fault with here although I did notice if they’re left in the fridge the layers tend come apart and they fall to pieces when you bite into them. Overall this is another great, unique product from a company at the top of they’re game at the minute. This flavour also has those trademark carb killa macros: Pairing that dark chocolate with that mint was a stroke of genius, similar to an after eight mint the combination works perfectly. Like the other carb killa’s these have a great blend of textures that work really well together.įlavour wise the dark chocolate has a strong, rich flavour that’s a nice change from the many milk chocolate bars out there, the mint layer comes through well but isn’t overpowering. Which again has the right amount of chew and isn’t overly tough. Good thick dark chocolate coating, under that is a white mint flavoured layer similar to caramel in texture, under that are some crispy cookie like pieces and finally a sweet chewy, nought in the centre. In the world of high protein low carb bars these guys are currently the ones to beat.Īppearance is similar to the other carb killa’s although the chocolate coating is noticeably darker and like the other carb killa’s, a little small at 60g. If your “into fitness” and looking to pick up a healthy snack these are a great option, but if you’re counting macros and understand a bit about nutrition, you’ll appreciate just how good these really are. How they managed to keep the carbs so low, I have no idea. So with all this awesome flavour comes poor macros right? The whole bar is creamy, has a strong vanilla flavour throughout and just the right amount of sweetness (If you ever had a Hershey’s cookies and cream bar, these will be pretty familiar) Under that is a layer, the same texture as caramel but with a strong vanilla taste and finally a creamy nought like centre that has the right amount of chew without being dry. They have a thick, creamy white chocolate coating with dark, crispy, cookie like prices on top. On opening their white chocolate appearance is a refreshing change from the regular milk chocolate covered protein bars. This brand is becoming increasingly popular and I can see why. Grenade carb killa White chocolate cookie flavour. Really nice, thick chocolate coating and a creamy/ crunchy centre While out driving today I picked up a foritfx cookies & cream fitcrunch bar and these things are legit. Might be heavy on the macros for some people But definitely worth it. In fact they’re better then a lot of regular chocolate bars in my opinion.Ī proper thick chocolate coating multiple layers, plenty of real peanuts and the right combination of textures, crunchy and chewy. ![]() Still hungry so I decided to try the peanut butter flavour fit crunch bars. They actually get better if their left in for the fridge for a little while.Ī little heavy macro-wise but oh so worth it. Good enough to give some regular chocolate bars a run for their money. ![]() ![]() The storyline in "Uncharted" was a great mixture of fast-paced action, great adventure much in the likes of "Indiana Jones", treasure hunting and good characters. And just as expected, then director Ruben Fleischer definitely delivered a wholesome and spot on action adventure that delivers a fast-paced adventure that will make the boy-that-never-wants-to-grow-up-in-us-all more than happy. So I sort of knew what I was in for here, as I sat down to watch the 2022 movie "Uncharted" from writers Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, Amy Hennig, Jon Hanley Rosenberg, Matt Holloway and Mark D. It’s rated PG-13.Well, oddly enough then I actually never have played the games, but I am well familiar with them and the concept that is "Uncharted". ![]() ![]() “Uncharted” premieres in US theaters on Feb. Stranger things have happened, but if “Uncharted” had truly wanted to chart a franchise course, its cartographers should have begun by mapping out a stronger game plan. That leaves behind what’s at best a B movie with A-level stunts, similar to the playfulness of Netflix’s recent heist caper “Red Notice,” without the same abundance of superhero star power in its quiver.įor all that, Holland remains innately likable, and after his dark, non-super forays in “Cherry” and “The Devil All the Time,” provides the primary anchor to an unpretentious film that seemingly harbors both champagne wishes and sequel dreams. While the action scenes proves kinetic and occasionally visceral, the cerebral aspects of deciphering where X marks the spot mostly amount to tedious time-killing between them. Those shortcomings merely underscore the video-game roots, leaving trifles like adding a third dimension to the characters as unnecessary distractions. The one strange thing is that the funniest insult they exchange appears in the trailer but not the actual movie, and any good dialogue here is too rare to wind up on the cutting-room floor. The frequent pinches come thanks to rival seekers of the gold, among them the wealthy heir Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas), his henchwoman Braddock (“You’s” Tati Gabrielle) and Sully’s grudging partner Chloe (“Grey’s Anatomy’s” Sophia Ali), who shares his every-person-for-themselves mentality.ĭirected by Ruben Fleischer ( “Venom” and “Zombieland”), “Uncharted” drops toward the wrong end of the chart every time Holland and Wahlberg engage in juvenile bickering, which alas is all too often. The “why” is beyond basic, with Nathan enlisted by fortune hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to assist him in pursuing billions in gold legendarily hidden by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago.ĭescribing the centuries-old bounty as “the biggest treasure that’s never been found,” Sully thinks the lad can help because he might possess knowledge provided by his long-lost brother, although Nathan proves himself both knowledgeable about the lore and handy in a pinch. Based on a PlayStation game, it’s better seen than heard, but the action looks good on an Imax screen, which was clearly the modest goal while seeking to approximate the tone of something like “National Treasure.”Ĭlearly recognizing its best sequence, the film begins with Holland’s Nathan Drake hanging on for dear life tethered to the floating cargo of an airborne plane, providing an adrenaline rush before flashing back to explain how and why he got there. Tom Holland puts his considerable charm to the test in “Uncharted,” a movie built around the Spider-Man star and wild aerial acrobatics. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Grover tuners work really well too, and those big buttons tally with the White Falcon’s ostentatious image. ![]() On the plus side, the bridge appears to be pinned because it doesn’t move and the individual saddle adjustment means this Gretsch definitely plays in tune. ![]() The ebony bridge base has either warped over the years or no attempt was made to fit it to the top in the first place. Chunky Grover tuners add weight to the headstock and zero frets were still preferred to regular nuts. What’s more, the lack of corrosion on the knobs can be attributed to the fact that they’re metallised plastic, while the head of the screw fixing the Bigsby to the top of the body is too large to fit into the countersink on this B12. Don’t be deceived by the gold plating – these are the type you can source from electronics outlets. It’s also clear that Baldwin was cutting costs and the chunky Switchcraft switches that Gretsch always used had by now been discarded for a pair of cheaper toggle units. ![]() They may be gold-plated, but the toggle switches are the type you’d find at any consumer electronics outlet Whatever they used back in Booneville, it was slathered on in large quantities and appears to have been wiped smooth with someone’s finger rather than sanded. The most bizarre aspect, however, is the filler around the neck joint. The paint is also fairly uneven and the gloss has subsided to a dull and slightly sticky surface. These edges are far from crisp and the transition along the fingerboard binding is particularly sketchy. The white lacquer has yellowed slightly and it was laid on very thickly – you can see and feel a distinct step where the white was scraped back, or masking tape was removed, to reveal the multi-ply black/white and gold-sparkle binding. This is Gretsch’s take on a tune-o-matic bridge, although here one screw has been inserted backwards However, there can be no confusion here, because it’s clear this guitar has spent more time on display than on stage and since it’s in near-mint condition, no allowances are necessary. Writing regularly about vintage equipment, we are able to distinguish between finish flaws and the inevitable wear and tear that goes with the territory. The back is padded for comfort and you’ll also need a padded strap for this 10-pounder We’ll discuss the playability in detail later, but suffice to say, the neck is arrow straight, action is low and the guitar plays perfectly. Considering Booneville’s reputation for flimsy neck joints, that’s quite something. Weighing in at over 10lbs, it’s heavier than many 1970s Les Paul Customs and the neck joint is as solid today as when it left the factory. We have no concerns about this guitar’s solidity, because it’s built like a tank. So what can we say about this Gretsch, which was made in the year before Baldwin decided to cease guitar production? Build quality is a tough thing to quantify and it might be helpful to approach it from two different angles – structural integrity/playability and standard of finish. By the late 70s, Baldwin utilised metallised plastic control knobs Baldwin Gretsches have always been somewhat stigmatised, although some Gretsch fans argue that it’s not entirely justified. Consequently, build quality suffered and even the company’s main endorser Chet Atkins declared: “They just couldn’t build Gretsch guitars at Booneville.” By the early 1980s, he had shifted his allegiance to Gibson. ![]() ![]() We even got to talk to lead producer Michael Murray and director Katsuhiro Harada about various burning questions regarding the latest entry of the legendary fighting series. It might encourage people who never touch their gears because they're intimidated by them, to make better use of their bike's abilities. I think this system would work beautifully for casual or newer cyclists. Did I enjoy the climb without them? Absolutely. If I'd had more cogs, would I have used them? Probably. I did rely on that easiest gear on a road ride with longer climbs, some with steep switchbacks. When I stopped to rest at the top, tired but not trashed, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I'd actually had two cogs to spare. As I neared the crest, I rose out of the saddle because I figured I'd reached my easiest gear. I was pedaling up a short but steep wall of road, clicking into easier gears along the way. RELATED: How to Get Quads Worthy of 1x Drivetrains I could confidently tell someone who wants a bike for recreational use that a 1x drivetrain is really worth considering. Having fewer gears to deal with and no left lever to think about is awesome. Who is this 1x drivetrain for? Maybe someone like me. I had gears to spare on that first climb. On my first climb, a ridiculous thought crossed my mind: Could two-by drive-trains eventually end up in landfills next to tube TVs? Of course they won't, but the experience was so satisfying, it seemed valid for a moment. Group: SRAM Rival 1 with S-Series S-700 Flat-Bar Shifters But on longer, fully-loaded tours and gravel races, you may want more gearing options. For lightweight touring and all-day adventure riding, we love the simplicity and climbing assistance of a 1x and a wide-range cassette. Should You Single Up?: Definitely, maybe, probably, sure. But 1x was ideal for these long, climb-y rides where you're just out to explore all day. Maybe if you were gravel racing, you'd want a bigger gear and more fine-tuning. ![]() It was also easy to quickly find my comfortable gear. The nearly 1:1 low gear gave me what I needed even when climbs hit over 10 percent, and I rarely spun out on descents-though I wasn't pushing the pace, because that wasn't the point. One shifter, one chainring, one question: Easier or harder? Bada-bing, bada-boom. The Double-Tap shifters were also a fantastic complement they only further simplified things. ![]() ![]() Days like these, you turn your brain off and just pedal, so it was nice to forget about front shifting. I tested the 1x on some long, solo rides, including one with 7,000 feet of climbing and dirt roads. RELATED: What You Need to Know About Bike Gear Shifting Coming down Fifth, I had a high enough gear to be satisfied on the steep downhill too. Sure, I was slow, but I could just chug along without fighting for every pedal stroke. I took it up Tenth Street-which hits over 20 percent grades-with loaded panniers, and never felt like I didn't have enough gears. I liked this system more than I expected. In my opinion, this setup was ideal for carrying weight, climbing steep terrain, being off-road, and any combination of two of those things-not all three of those conditions at the same time. But for the fully loaded, cross-country touring I used to do, during which you're carrying 50 pounds, I would have needed a smaller gear in the front for the eastern part of the country (the Appalachians), though probably not the western (the Rockies). I was surprised at how fluid the shifting was and how little I felt the need for another chainring.Īs for this particular gearing combination, I think a stronger rider would be okay with it. I rode this bike after work on a day I felt especially cooped up and frustrated, so I was tearing around like a bat out of windowless office hell. ![]() ![]() ![]() Additionally, transparent communication encourages others to communicate openly and increases the sharing of ideas (Hutchison, 2020, April 8). I was a fan from day one, King was cocky and relaxed and seemed genuinely happy to have joined us and as it was something new/different I embraced it/him (so I was basically the complete opposite of how I am these days).Īs a player he could be inconsistent and appeared to be a player who enjoyed Â’a good timeÂ’, however you have to remember players back then werenÂ’t on much more than the average feller so he was hardly living like Beckham. I remember my (late) dad initially wasnÂ’t too impressed with the signing, but changed his mind very quickly based on AKÂ’s personality more than his play ("IÂ’d have Andy King over some miserable Yorkshire get any day"). Northern teams generally featured a few lads from the immediate city/town, a couple of tough Scots, a Welsh and/or Irish lad and a few players from the surrounding areas.
